EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy)

This is a therapy with a focus on processing distressing, traumatic and or overwhelming events in our life. It could be traumatic event such as a car accident, it could be an event involving grief, anger, fear, guilt or more. This is a somatic type of therapy involving more of helping the meaning of events and the emotions associated with those event settle and update to a meaning and belief that is more adaptive more realistic and more true for you. Often in stressful events our survival response takes off and our frontal lobe where we can think logically switches off and we are often left with a skewed meaning or interpretation of the event that on a logical level we know isn't true but on a body and emotional level feels true. We often hear things like it's my fault, I deserved to be treated badly, etc. This type of theory will explore the memory networks and expand this limited view and update it.

Schema therapy

Schema therapy is a very versatile and comprehensive form of therapy that looks at the early experiences that help shape the way we see and think of ourselves, others and the world. It includes a number of different interventions including interpersonal techniques: looking at dynamics in your relationships and exploring awareness of needs and wants and communication. This also includes providing a safe and collaborative therapy relationship. There are also cognitive strategies - looking at the way we interpret things that happen to us, the way we think of ourselves and others, we may be doing thought diaries or talking this through in session. There are also experiential interventions : which can include noticing parts of ourselves, in Chair work, Imagery Rescripting.
We also have a Behavioural component which includes creating change in the moment when we feel triggered by events.

DBT

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is a very helpful skills based therapy. It focuses on 4 main areas including understanding and developing 'Emotional regulation skills', Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Mindfulness.
Our approach to DBT is warm, collaborative an adapted to your individual needs. We work at your pace, focusing on skills that feel relevant and usable in everyday life while also making space to understand the deeper patterns behind your experiences.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural therapy is a really good foundational therapy. It helps to understand the link between how our thoughts influence our beliefs about self world and others, and how it influences our emotions and our responses. Knowledge is power. The more we understand about how certain factors influence our emotions and moods we are in a position to make informed choices and actions towards how we want to be living.

ERP for OCD

This type of therapy is effective and a gold standard treatment to support getting out of the OCD cycle. It involves learning more about OCD and its various forms, your unique cycle including underlying beliefs/interpretations, and behaviours used to prevent an outcome or feeling. It will involved graded exposure to the situation in a slow and steady fashion including resisting the urge to do any compulsive behaviour. We all do things that make sense to us. Your brain, nervous system, emotions and body are a continuous back and forth feedback loop responding to stimuli at all times. We will help you understand the factors that lead to this occurring and support you with compassion to get unstuck.

ACT

Acceptance and Commitment therapy. This type of therapy can be quite good for exploring the things that truly matter to us in life, in our relationships in ourselves and in others and in the world. We explore deeper patterns that lead to suffering and patterns that lead to meaningful living and develop therapy goals together.

Imagery rescripting & Imaginal REliving

These types of therapy is helpful for processing traumatic and overwhelming events. We use imaginal reliving to go back to a challenging memory and slow it down in the moment. We stay with you and support you to slow down your nervous system response and to switch on your brain and notice the whole situation in the moment. This is helpful to update the memory which often due to the overwhelming nature of the event our brain shuts down and our body goes in survival mode which leaves us to walk away with usually an extreme negative meaning that is skewed like its my fault this occurred, I didnt do enough etc. We use this type of therapy to update the meaning to something more accurate.
Imagery rescripting also uses imagery to go back to a challenging memory but here our focus is on your emotional needs, and rescripting the memory to create an experience of having your needs met. This is an experiential technique that can be healing and provide some closure. This is not about changing memories. It's about giving yourself an experience of what you needed at that time. Our nervous system and bodies respond the same way to an event actually happening as it does to watching a movie. So we want to create a healing experience.

Transformational chairwork

This type of therapy is an experiential type of therapy. We can use in a number of ways for a number of issues. We can use this for challenging relationships, and imagine the other person sitting in the empty chair and having a dialogue with them. This can be helpful for closure, relationships ending, or a challenging one to express ourselves. We can use this to explore different parts of us and more.

Brief solution focused therapy

This type of therapy can be helpful when there is a specific issue you want to address and we come up with strategies and tools together to implement to help resolve that issue.

We take our time to get to know you and discover what you would like out of therapy. Then together we discuss what types of therapy can be helpful and we come up with a therapy plan.

We will regularly check in on how you are finding therapy and progress towards your goals.

We invite feedback on your experience.
